About Us

Brighton & Hove Palestine Solidarity Campaign (BHPSC) was founded in 1997.

We are a group of people of all ages and backgrounds who campaign against the gross injustice and oppression suffered by the Palestinian people.

It is one of 40 branches affiliated to the national Palestine Solidarity Campaign  www.palestinecampaign.org.

We campaign by non-violent means for an end to the illegal Israeli occupation of Palestine and the right of return of the refugees – through the media, by lobbying our government, and by boycott actions to bring pressure to bear on the Israeli state, as in the case of apartheid South Africa.  See Campaigns.

BHPSC supporters take part in a wide range of activities.

  • Travelling  to Palestine to help with solidarity work (like helping to build a school in the Jordan Valley).
  • Helping with our stall, held on most Saturday afternoons in central Brighton, talking to people and handing out leaflets.
  • Writing letters to the press or phoning the BBC when events in Palestine are badly reported.
  • Many of us take part in marches and in demonstrations at, or inside, local supermarkets to urge shoppers to join us in boycotting Israeli produce.

We hold planning meetings monthly to which all supporters are welcome, and regularly organise public meetings e.g. recently on the convoy of humanitarian aid which aimed to break the siege on Gaza, and on the relentless  Israeli house demolitions in  the Palestinian West Bank and East Jerusalem.

We take part in national events and demonstrations.  We cooperate with other local organisations which support Palestinian rights, e.g. Amnesty, Stop the War Coalition, Women’s League for Peace and Freedom, Brighton Jordan Valley Solidarity, SmashEDO.  In 2011 we organised a very successful Palestinian film festival.

Please join us.  We will value your help and support.

A good way to find out about our campaigns and to get involved is by coming along to our monthly planning meetings. We meet on the second Monday of every month (but not in August) upstairs at the Quadrant pub at the Clock Tower in central Brighton, starting at 8pm. Everyone is welcome. NB Our April meeting will be on Monday 15th, rather than on the 8th, due to the fact that our March meeting had to be postponed. Back to normal in May (13th).

We also welcome supporters at our regular Saturday stall – 1-3pm every Saturday. Currently we set up our stall outside the EcoStream store in Western Road, near Waitrose, where we hold our weekly picket and protest over the complicity of the store in the occupation of Palestine. There’s lots more information about this campaign elsewhere on the site.
