Brighton & Hove Palestine Solidarity Campaign (BHPSC) was founded in 1997.
We are a group of people of all ages and backgrounds who campaign against the gross injustice and oppression suffered by the Palestinian people.
It is one of 40 branches affiliated to the national Palestine Solidarity Campaign.
We campaign by non-violent means for an end to the illegal Israeli occupation of Palestine and the right of return of the refugees – through the media, by lobbying our government, and by boycott actions to bring pressure to bear on the Israeli state, as in the case of apartheid South Africa. You can find out about our current and recent campaigns by using the pull-down menu under ‘Campaigns’ at the top of each page of this site.
You can help us by joining in our activities and by becoming a member.
BHPSC supporters take part in a wide range of activities.
- Travelling to Palestine to help with solidarity work (like helping to build a school in the Jordan Valley).
- Helping with our stall, held on most Saturday afternoons in central Brighton, talking to people and handing out leaflets.
- Writing letters to the press or phoning the BBC when events in Palestine are badly reported.
- Many of us take part in marches and in demonstrations at, or inside, local supermarkets to urge shoppers to join us in boycotting Israeli produce.
We hold monthly planning meetings to which all supporters are welcome, and we regularly organise public meetings e.g. recently on international response to the Israeli assault on Gaza.
We take part in national events and demonstrations. We cooperate with other local organisations which support Palestinian rights, e.g. Brighton & Hove Trades Council, local branches of political parties and campaigns, Amnesty, Stop the War Coalition, Women’s League for Peace and Freedom, Brighton Jordan Valley Solidarity, SmashEDO.
The best way to support our campaign is to become a member of BHPSC. You can join via this website by clicking here. We will ask for a small annual subscription. Once you have joined you will receive regular information about our activities, and will be able to take part in our discussions and planning. We will value your help and support.
A good way to find out about our campaigns and to get involved is by coming along to our monthly planning meetings. We meet on the second Monday of every month 7.30pm till 9.30pm. The venue for our meetings varies, so use the ‘Contact Us’ facility on this website to check.
We also welcome supporters at our regular Saturday stall in the city centre. This is usually from 1pm till 3pm every Saturday. The location varies so if you’d like to join us at the stall please use the ‘Contact Us’ facility on this website to ask about our plans.
If you prefer not to become a member at this stage, you can still receive periodic email updates from us by signing up in the right-hand side column of this page. Please also check this website from time to time too.
